Old World Swallowtail

 

Papilio machaon - the most common (but rare) swallowtail in Europe, found also in Canada. Called just a Swallowtail in England because of lack of other Papilio species. Other names: European Swallowtail, Queen's Swallowtail. This photo was made by Martina Borchert from Marl, Germany, just after hatching on July 13, 2005.
